Slowing pipeline: new home approvals hit a decade low

Writer: Conrad BindingConrad Binding

  • The latest Home Builders Federation’s Housing Pipeline Report has found that the number of units and sites gaining planning approval have continued to drop for yet another quarter.

  • Just over 230,000 units were granted planning permission over the last 12 months, the lowest figure in the last decade.

  • 10,400 sites were approved in the same period, the lowest level since the report began in 2006.

  • Despite progress on planning permissions, the decline in planning permissions highlights the challenge the new Government faces in increasing housing supply. Source: Dataloft by PriceHubble, Home Builders Federation’s Housing Pipeline Report, 12 months to June 2024
