Renters are putting down roots

Writer: Conrad BindingConrad Binding

  • Renter behaviours are evolving. Once viewed as a short-term stepping stone to homeownership, renting is increasingly becoming a long-term choice, with renters putting down roots and truly making their rental property their home.

  • A quarter of renters are renting out of choice rather than necessity with 25% also anticipating staying in renting for more than 5 years. (Property Academy Survey, 2024).

  • Landlords are also responding. They are increasingly allowing renters more freedom to decorate their homes and working with them to discuss their plans and approve tradespeople.

  • Building positive relationships between landlords and renters not only helps ensure tenants feel content in their homes but also benefits landlords by reducing void periods and unexpected maintenance costs. Source: Dataloft by PriceHubble, OSB Group, Innovation Bubble, Property Academy
