  • The Prime Minister has published the 'AI Opportunities Action Plan' to ramp up AI adoption and make the UK a world leader in artificial intelligence.

  • The plan includes 50 recommendations, including to create 'AI Growth Zones (AIGZs)' and to work with devolved and local governments across the country to identify opportunities.

  • Places that attract and grow businesses in this fast-evolving sector will reap economic benefits. There will be winners and losers in the housing market.

  • The first AIGZ has been named as Culham in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. Powerful super computers in Bristol (Isambard AI) and Cambridge (Dawn) will be made available to researchers and SMEs from spring 2025 to access the AI Research Resource (AIRR).

  • The UK has the third-largest AI industry after USA and China. London headquartered AI startups raised $3.5B in venture capital in 2024, a 52% increase on 2023. Source: Dataloft by PriceHubble, Gov.uk
